Thuy Tran is the Chief Investment Officer of KYUR (pronounced Cure) Wealth. KYUR is a fully independent, minority owned money management firm based in Newport Beach on Fashion Island. KYUR provides customized Total Wealth Solutions comprised of Equities, Bonds, Commodities, Real Estate and Crypto. Thuy has over 20 years of experience managing traditional and hedge fund equity strategies across U. S. and Global markets, in Europe, Asia-Pacific and Emerging Markets.
Thuy graduated with in MBA in Finance and Strategic Management from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. He was selected by Wharton Finance professors as a Wharton Fund Fellow to manage a portion of UPenn’s endowment fund. He earned a B.S. in Economics and Accounting from NYU’s Stern School of Business where he also studied history and language at Hanoi University.
Prior to KYUR, Thuy worked for large NYC based investment firms such as Neuberger Berman and Man GLG managing institutional funds. Funds he managed were top rated by Morningstar, Lipper and Pensions & Investments.
Mindy is a founding board member and VP of External Affairs for Ascend UC Irvine. She founded Path 2 Ascend, or P2A. It is a one-of-a-kind mentorship initiative that pairs students with seasoned professionals through the Ascend network, an organization dedicated to advancing professionals both personally and in the workplace. Ascend operates more than 22 professional chapters and 45 student chapters across the United States and Canada, and P2A sits at the intersection of that national reach and UC Irvine’s thriving Orange County ecosystem.
What makes P2A different from other mentorship programs isn’t just its scale. It’s its DNA. Unlike alumni-based mentorships, P2A matches students with professionals who may have no direct connection to UC Irvine at all. The common thread is Ascend membership and a shared commitment to lifting others up. “We’ve never really had something like this,” Pham-Bui recalled hearing from both university partners, “because now we’re introducing professionals from different universities and backgrounds, and they get a chance to come back and support students with the commonality that everyone is involved in Ascend.”
The results speak volumes. In its inaugural year, P2A matched 16 mentors with 16 mentees, all carefully, intentionally paired. In year two, the program more than tripled, growing to over 100 participants across UC Irvine. The mentor selection process alone took nine months, from initial outreach in May to a formal kickoff in January, with each pairing handpicked to ensure meaningful, one-on-one relationships.
